Cross Village

Cross Village, located in northern Michigan, is one of the oldest settlements in Michigan. This once-thriving fishing and lumber town, was known as the "Land of the Cross" by the area's Native American Ottawa Indians. The name was derived from the white cross placed on a bluff near Lake Michigan in 1675, by Father Jacques Marquette. A replica of the cross remains in its place today.
