Cranbrook Institute of Science

Detroit area residents and visitors ready for a fun day of learning about science, have a wonderful option in Bloomfield Hills. The Cranbrook Institute of Science, established in 1904 by George and Ellen Booth, is a wonderful science and history museum. Education has always been a focus of this incredible center.

The museum began as the Brookside School for Children in 1922 and later became the Cranbrook School for Boys, in 1927. To celebrate the museum's 50th anniversary, a life-sizes statue of a Stegosaurus was installed.

Schedule plenty of time to stroll through the center's eleven permanent galleries. The Our Dynamic Earth features the Ice Ages Come and Go and Mastodons Did Not Survive, while the Wasserman Hall features the Flint Anthropology Gallery and the Woodlands Den.

Opened in August 2002, Ford Field is home to the Detroit Lions of the NFL. Seating more than 65,000 fans, Ford Field hosted Super Bowl XL in 2006, and has been the home of the MAC Championship game since 2004.

Gerald R. Ford Presidential Library

Be sure to tour one of the finest libraries in the state of Michigan. The Gerald R. Ford Presidential Library, located on the University of Michigan - North Campus, celebrates Former President Gerald Ford. He graduated from the North Campus of the University of Michigan in 1935.

The Library is included in the National Archives and Records Administration. Open to the public since 1981, Library visitors view an extensive collection of photographs, presidential papers and audiovisual footage.

The Gerald Ford Museum is located in Grand Rapids, his hometown, and includes displays of the former President and Mrs. Ford's lives. Drive in Livonia.

Joe Louis Arena

Opened in 1979, Joe Louis Arena is home to the legendary NHL franchise Detroit Red Wings. Joe Louis Arena is one of the most iconic structures in Detroit. The Joe has seen championships, records broken, and plenty of squid on the ice – a famous display of appreciation from fans as they toss a squid onto the ice from the crowd when one of the Red Wings scores a hat trick.

MotorCities National Heritage Area

The heritage area was designated in 1998 to preserve and commemorate the cultural and historical impact the automobile had on the Detroit Metropolitan area with a collection of MotorCities tours, events, and historical sites.
