Visiting Detroit Metro Area
As one of the classic American cities, Detroit features a robust and eclectic history, while maintaining a certain blue-collar atmosphere. Known as the Motor City, with a rich history of automobile manufacturing, Detroit, and it’s surrounding metro area, is alive and well during the spring and early summer. Fun and interesting cities like Madison Heights, Roseville, and Livonia grace the Detroit metro area. When the weather warms, be sure to visit the Red Oaks Waterpark in Madison Heights. Set nearly in between downtown Detroit and Madison Heights is the Gospel Music Hall of Fame & Museum – check it out.
Head into Livonia set west of downtown Detroit. A friendly city where you can play 18 holes at the Idyl Wild Golf Course, or check out a live performance at the Motor City Youth Theatre, Livonia is especially brilliant in spring.
Guests of the Best Western Livonia hotel enjoy a close proximity to Detroit, where they make time to visit the Michigan Sports Hall of Fame, while others choose to explore the National Museum of the Tuskegee Airmen. Don’t miss an exhilarating afternoon – at least for the kids – at Rotary Park, on April 7, for the Livonia Egg Hunt.
Established in 1840 by William Rose, the city of Roseville is just a scenic half hour drive north from Detroit. Guests of the Best Western Roseville hotel are in prime position to explore the shores of Fords Cove, just to the east. Whether it’s fishing and boating, or simply bird watching, Fords Cove is an ideal spot to spend a spring day while visiting the Detroit metro area.
One of the largest cities in Michigan, Sterling Heights is directly north of Detroit. Home to Liberty Park of America, Sterling Heights is a desirable destination during the spring months – especially for golfers. Be sure to play the West Course at Maple Lane Golf Club, or check out the Sunnybrook Golf Bowl, with its three, nine-hole courses.
Romulus is another golf-friendly city in the Detroit metro area. Be sure to play the well-bunkered Shady Hollow Golf Course, or check out the Woodside Meadows Golf Course. Golf is one draw for Romulus, but don’t miss out on a look back at the beginnings of the city known as Rom-Town – every Sunday during April. Head to the Romulus Historical Museum for guided tours.
South of Detroit is Allen Park. Home to the Ford Rouge Factory, Allen Park is a small suburb and fine destination for spring travelers heading into Detroit.
Baseball fans visiting the Detroit metro area will no doubt visit Comerica Park on April 20, as the Detroit Tigers slug it out versus the Texas Rangers.
