This top-ranked public law school maintains and administers the collection of books in the University of Michigan Law School Library.
The initial library collection was housed in the "old" Law Building until the collection expanded requiring additional space. For forty years, Professor Hobart Coffey administered the library collection.
By the late 70s and early 80s, the library expanded with the Allan F. and Alene Smith addition. This additional 77,000 square feet of space provided room for shelving the 475,000 books, added the Jackie Rare Book Room and 482 seats.
