Headlands International Dark Sky Park
Open daily and free to the public, the Headlands International Dark Sky Park is located in Mackinaw City – found in lower Michigan in the northwest corner of the state. Locally known as The Headlands, the park is famous for incredible stargazing and views of the Northern Lights.
Established in the 1950s – later becoming a major attraction of Emmet County – The Headlands covers approximately 550 acres along the Straits of Mackinac. The park also offers the Guest House for reservations on special occasions.
Night sky-gazing programs include Harvest Moon Total Eclipse, and Catch a Falling Star with The Geminids, both from the Dark Sky Viewing Area. And if the Northern Lights are on your bucket list, visit the park on fall and spring nights.
